Cook goes flag-to-flag for SAS win at Needmore
NORMAN PARK, Ga. (Aug. 10) — Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., led every lap of Saturday’s Southern All Stars Series event at Needmore Speedway, earning $4,000 for his second series victory of the season.
The second-starting Cook got the jump on polesitter Ivedent Lloyd Jr. of Ocala, Fla., and turned back Lloyd’s late challenge in traffic to earn the 12th Southern All Stars victory of his career as the tour wrapped up a Georgia doubleheader that featured two new tracks for the series.
Lloyd, who finished second to Casey Barrow of Savannah, Ga., in Friday’s weekend opener at Albany (Ga.) Motor Speedway, settled for another runner-up finish in Saturday’s 40-lapper.
William Thoams of Phenix City, Ala., notched his second top-five performance of the weekend in finishing third, while series points leader Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., finished fourth and Joseph Joiner of Milton, Fla., finished fifth for the second straight night.
