Rome victory completes Cook's $6,500 sweep
ROME, Ga. (Sept. 1) — Completing a weekend of sweep of Swims family-promoted tracks in north Georgia, Ray Cook of Brasstown, N.C., captured Sunday’s Rome Boss 50 at Rome Speedway. Combined with his Saturday night victory at Dixie Speedway, Cook pocketed $6,500 on the weekend, including a $1,000 bonus. | Slideshow
Cook beat Jake Knowles of Tyrone, Ga., to the checkers for the second straight night for the $4,000 payday at Rome while Brian Smith of Sand Rock, Ala., was third. Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga., finished fourth and wrapped up the combined Super Late Model championship at Dixie and Rome.
Aaron Ridley of Chatsworth, Ga., rounded out the top five in Rome’s regular-season finale.
Cook, who led flag-to-flag at Dixie, started outside the front row at Rome but slipped back to fourth early in the race on the 4/10-mile oval. Cook soon was heading in the right direction and took the lead after about 10 laps and controlled the rest of the race.
