Wilson grabs $3,000 victory at WinterFest

WINCHESTER, Tenn. (Feb. 22) — Chris Wilson of Crossville, Tenn., earned $3,000 Saturday at Winchester Speedway’s WinterFest, winning just his sixth career Super Late Model start.
Wilson inherited the lead after tangle between leader Chad Winkles of Falkville, Ala., and Riley Hickman of Ooltewah, Tenn., then held off Eric Cooley of Fulton, Miss., over the final 10 circuits at the quarter-mile oval.
The eighth-starting Cooley finished second while David Brannon of Elora, Tenn., improved three positions to finish third. David Gentry of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and 12th-starting Eric Hickerson of Linden, Tenn., rounded out the top five.
Polesitter Lamar Scoggins of Cleveland, Tenn., led early in the race, but mechanical problems forced him out and he became the second retiree in the 24-car field. Winkles inherited the lead from Scoggins.
Notes: Wilson’s GRT Race Car is sponsored by Dale’s Auto Sales, Speedliner, PPM Performance Products and CVR. … Jimmy Elliott won the feature for Limited Late Models. … The track hasn’t announced further dates, but practices will be scheduled before the regular season begins in April.
