Hogge nips Drake, Kirby for victory at Chowchilla

CHOWCHILLA, Calif. (April 10) — Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas, Calif., slipped under race-long leader Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo, Calif., on the 21st lap and survived a challenge from Mike Kirby of Torrance, Calif., for a West Coast Shootout victory at Chowchilla Speedway. | Slideshow
Kirby followed Hogge past Drake and actually overtook Hogge in turn three on the 23rd lap, but a caution appeared as the frontrunners went through turn four, erasing Kirby's pass and resetting the field with Hogge out front.
Kirby ended up second followed by Drake, Chris Shannon of Merced, Calif., and John Lowrey of Bakersfield, Calif., on a night when racers battled difficult track conditions on a heavy racing surface.
