Whitwell claims SWDRA win at Central Arizona
CASA GRANDE, Ariz. (April 13) — Polesitter R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz., raced to his second Southwest Dirt Racing Association victory of the season Saturday night at Central Arizona Raceway, earning $1,000 at the recently reopened 3/8-mile oval. | Slideshow
Fifth-starting Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., was second at the finish while James Laing of Tucson raced from his 11th starting spot to finish third. Jeff Manka of Phoenix, Ariz., started and finished fourth while outside polesitter Joey Moriarty, also of Phoenix, ended up fifth.

Whitwell earned his 10th-career SWDRA victory, moving him into a tie with Anthony Madrid of Phoenix, Ariz., for sixth on the tour’s all-time wins list. ... Whitwell has won eight of the tour’s past 10 races, including a streak of six straight victories to end the 2012 season. ... Next up for SWDRA competitors is the tour’s second visit of the season to Tucson (Ariz.) International Raceway on May 18. Whitwell won the tour’s previous race there March 23.
