Whitwell tops Alberson for victory at El Paso

EL PASO, Texas (June 14) — R.C. Whitwell of Tucson, Ariz., continued his impressive season out West with a $1,200 victory Friday night at El Paso Speedway Park that was co-sanctioned by the Championship Dirt Motorsports and Southwest Dirt Racing Association tours. | Slideshow
Reigning CDM champion Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., was second with reigning SWDRA champion Lonnie Parker Jr. of El Mirage, Ariz., just behind in third. Bumper Jones of Mesilla Park, N.M., was fourth with Joey Moriarty of Phoenix, Ariz., rounding out the race’s top five finishers.
The weekend doubleheader for the two tours moves t o Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M., Saturday for another $1,200-to-win event.
Notes: Whitwell’s Mike Tahtinen-owned GRT Race Car is sponsored by Sierra Mining & Crushing. ... Whitwell earned his third CDM-sanctioned victory of the season and third of his career. ... He recored his fourth SWDRA victory of the season and 13th of his career.
