Jones tops Alberson for second CDM victory

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (Aug. 3) — Home-track modified racer Bumper Jones of Mesilla Park, N.M., continued to find Late Model success at Southern New Mexico Speedway, claiming a $1,200 victory in Saturday’s Championship Dirt Motorsports Presented by Indy Screen Print event at the 5/16-mile oval. | Slideshow
Jones, who also claimed Southern New Mexico’s previous CDM race on June 15, led hometown driver Garrett Alberson to the finish of Saturday’s race in a reverse of the top two positions from Friday’s CDM event at El Paso (Texas) Speedway Park. Jones’ victory snapped Alberson’s personal four-race win streak.
Lonnie Parker of Phoenix, Ariz., was third for the second straight night while hometown driver Fito Gallardo followed his fifth-place finish on Friday with a fourth-place performance in Saturday’s race. Mercedes Albercrombie rounded out the race’s top five finishers.
Notes: Jones drove the No. 19 Lewis Racing MasterSbilt Race Car to victory. ... The series returns to action with a $1,500-to-win event Aug. 31 at Aztec (N.M.) Speedway.
