Drake sweeps Canyon's doubleheader weekend
PEORIA, Ariz. (Sept. 21) — Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo, Calif., completed a sweep of Canyon Speedway’s doubleheader weekend with a $2,000 victory in Saturday’s Mr. Excitement 40 at the third-mile oval. | Drake wins opener
Drake topped Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., for a victory sanctioned by both the West Coast Late Model Shootout and the Southwest Dirt Racing Association. Two-time defending WCS champion Clay Daly of Watsonville, Calif., was third with Bud Grossenbacher of Tucson, Ariz., and Nick Bartels of El Segundo, Calif., rounding out the top five.
WCS points leader Tony Toste of Pismo Beach, Calif., who was the runner-up to Drake in Friday’s opener, finished eighth in Saturday’s feature.
