Analysis of a phenom

I don’t like to use the word phenom very much when describing racers. Obviously short for phenomenal, the term phenom is typically reserved for a young talent who you know will be a superstar. The tag is mostly used to describe stick-and-ball athletes. After watching Sunday’s UMP DIRTcar Summernationals race at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., I feel compelled to call race winner Bobby Pierce a racing phenom.
