So much for the Georgia portion of the 2011 Georgia-Florida Speedweeks. Even though officials at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania and Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick tried their hardest to get their respective events in this weekend, the weather didn’t cooperate.

To some, the rainouts might not have been too big of a deal. These aren’t the first races to be hampered by weather, and certainly won’t be the last. But for me personally, the weekend washout was a huge letdown.

When I first heard the news that the Dirt Track World Championship is moving back to K-C Raceway this year and that it will be sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, I’ll admit I was a bit surprised. The return to K-C isn’t the surprising part. Of the last three venues to host the DTWC, K-C had the most success in terms of car count. After last year’s race at West Virginia Motor Speedway drew a race-low 53 cars, it makes a lot of sense for race promoter Carl Short to give K-C MORE

While the eastern half of the country spent the week thawing out from the winter storm that dropped snow from New England to Alabama, drivers and fans that traveled to Arizona for the Wild West Shootout at USA Raceway in Tucson enjoyed warm weather and some pretty darn good racing.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go to Arizona, but the DirtonDirt.com guys who were lucky enough to make the trip did a good job of keeping the rest of us updated on all the happenings in the desert.
