Lernerville fire causes minor damage
A structure at Lernerville Speedway suffered damage in an early-morning fire at the Sarver, Pa., that drew several emergency crews from surrounding towns, according to a KDKA-TV report.
Damage was mostly contained to the roof and walls in the back half of an office and storage/maintenance building located at the front of the track's property along Route 356, well away from the speedway's grandstand structure. Some tools, a truck and a tractor inside the building also sustained minor damage, according to the report from Pittsburgh’s CBS affiliate. No injuries were reported.
The fire was reported after 4 a.m. and was under control within two hours. A local fire department source said the cause of the fire was believed to be electrical.
The 4/10-mile oval’s season is scheduled to begin in April with the first race for DIRTcar-sanctioned Super Late Models on April 28.
