Wintry weather postpones 26th Ice Bowl
With a winter storm making travel difficult throughout Alabama, officials early Saturday morning postponed this weekend's 26th annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track until Jan. 13-15.
"The safety of our fans, drivers, and staff is imperative in situations like this. We feel that to provide a safe trip to the races and a quality show we have no choice but to postpone the event,” track owner Lynn “Preacher” Phillips said in a news release. “We appreciate everyone's support over the years and especially in situations like this. We hope to see everyone back next weekend for the 26th annual Ice Bowl.”
The track had already scrapped Friday’s preliminaries and then completely postponed the entire weekend before sunrise Saturday after 2 and 3 inches of wintry precipitation paralyzed much of central Alabama with temperatures dropping below 20.
The track warned the scores of teams on site to take precautions leaving the track on slick roads, allowing teams to leave their haulers on site if necessary until roads cleared.
All fees and admissions will be honored during the Jan. 13-15 makeup, which will follow the timeline of the originally scheduled event starting with practice noon Friday.
The multidivision program includes four styles of Late Model cars, highlighted by a $6,000-to-win event for Super Late Models.
Teams that haven’t turned in transponders and can’t make it back to the track should call Professional Motor Sports Solutions at (863) 412-4450 to arrange options for return.
