Tractor accident injures TCMS worker
Pete Badgero, a track employee at Tri-City Motor Speedway in Auburn, Mich., is recovering from injuries after losing his left leg below the knee as the result of a June 22 fall from a moving tractor during a rain delay at the facility.
According to the track’s website, Badgero, of Midland, Mich., fell from the tractor when it collided with another vehicle. With the tractor still in gear and in motion, Badgero's leg was caught underneath the attached rototiller. The tractor continued across the speedway and careened into the retaining wall before speedway owner Steve Puvalowski could get it under control.
Badgero, who has worked at the speedway for three years, underwent surgeries over the weekend as doctors focused initially on cleaning the wound to prevent serious infection.
“The TCMS staff did an excellent job helping a fellow co-worker and working to keep the crowd calm during such a serious incident,” said Tri-City owner Steve Puvalowski via the track website. “Our prayers go out to Pete as he begins his road of recovery. He has a strong passion for racing and TCMS and we look forward to having him back with our team.”
A GoFundMe account has been set up at www.gofundme.com/support-pete-badgero-and-family to help Badgero with his expenses during his recovery.
