Alabama dirt racing announcer dies
Eddie Davis, a former announcer at Alabama’s Talladega Short Track and other dirt ovals in the Southeast whose passion and love for racing came through the microphone, died Friday at his Alabaster, Ala., home. He was 60.
Davis, who most recently has worked as marketing manager for the United Championship Racing Alliance, was scheduled to announce Saturday’s Firecracker 50 at Fort Payne (Ala.) Motor Speedway. Fort Payne, Talladega and ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, Ala., were among tracks paying tribute to Davis on Saturday night.
At Fort Payne, more than $2,000 was raised for the Davis family by racers, friends and fans.
