Madden released, won't require surgery
Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., has been released from the hospital and won't need not surgery on his left eye socket fractured when he fell off a golf cart Tuesday morning driven by a Mansfield (Ohio) Motor Speedway employee at the track, Scott Bloomquist Racing announced Wednesday afternoon.
The 44-year-old driver was transferred from a Mansfield, Ohio, hospital to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus for a more thorough evaluation after suffering the injury. He underwent a CAT scan and was checked by several specialists who determined surgery wasn't required.
According to an SBR press release, while Madden won't compete in this weekend’s Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series-sanctioned Dirt Million at the Mansfield oval, doctors have indicated that once swelling subsides he'll likely be able to return to the cockpit when he feels comfortable. Surgery would have necessitated a much lengthier recovery.
The release also stated that Madden, who is traveling home with his family Wednesday, “wants to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers” and “would like to kindly request his privacy at this time.”
