Senoia schedules DirtonDirt.com Shootout

Returning to racing with spectator-free event, Senoia (Ga.) Raceway has announced Thursday's $5,000-to-win DirtonDirt.com Shootout, a Super Late Model special available for live-streaming for subscribers at DirtonDirt.com and FloRacing.

Co-promoter Mayes Massey's Thursday event will feature Super and Crate Late Models for a weeknight event that will precede Senoia's plans for an eight-division program on Saturday.

"I'm really excited about the possible exposure we can get, and I really feel like we have one of the best surfaces in the South," said Massey, crediting partner Doug Stevens with the track preparation. "He kind of takes a scientific approach to prepping the track and his surfaces are usually unbelievable."

Senoia, shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic along with dirt tracks nationally, will follow social distancing protocols Thursday with teams limited to six people, including the driver. Neither grandstands or concession stands will be open at the track that has successfully hosted practices, including one when Georgia State Patrol officers stopped by the verify regulations were being followed.

"We passed the tests, I guess you could say, of what you're supposed to do," Massey said.

While Thursday's 40-lap Super Late Model event, co-sponsored by E-Z-Go, will be unsanctioned, it will follow Schaeffer's Spring Nationals rules and series promoter Ray Cook and his crew will handle race direction and technical inspection. Cook's Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C., hosted a similar event a week earlier, the first Late Model special in six weeks.

Crate Late Model will chase a $1,000-to-win purse with a 30-lap feature Thursday. Crate hot laps are scheduled for 6:30 p.m. with Super Late Model hot laps at 7:30 p.m. Gates open at 3 p.m. and pit passes are $40. For details of Saturday's Bullring Bash, a spectator-free event with limited fields in eight divisions, including Limited Late Models and Crate Late Models, visit senoiaraceway.com.

Correction: Fixes winning purse; adds start times.
