Atomic adds $7,500-to-win event
Atomic Speedway near Chillicothe, Ohio, has scheduled a $7,500-to-win Atomic Blast for May 29 that will be run without spectators but streamed live at DirtonDirt.com for website subscribers.
The Super Late Model-only event includes hot laps, time trials, heat races, C-Main, B-main and 35-lap main event.
Health restrictions — more strict than many previous events — include required face coverings at all times and temperature checks for everyone entry (must be 100.4 degrees or below to enter). Social distancing practices are required throughout the facility. No concessions will be available.
“We contacted the health department to make sure everything was good there and they bent over backwards to help us and to make sure we do all the steps right," promoter and co-owner Brad McCown said. "That’s the biggest thing, we’ve never cut any corners on the health department with anything, so that sure makes it a lot easier when you go to them in circumstances like this, if they know you do stuff right to start with.
“We knew when the governor came out with his (latest) mandates that it was going to be a while before fans were going to be involved. Brushcreek (Motorsports Complex in Peebles, Ohio) kinda led the way with their (May 9 race), with their pay-per-view deal, but we wanted to expand it and make it a big show worth people seeing, on one of the great networks, DirtonDirt."
All pit passes and entry fees must be purchased before race date for contact-free registration; Team entry is $310 (includes $100 entry and pit passes for five team members).
Pit gates open at 3 p.m. and team members must have several forms of paperwork signed and ready for entry, including a health waiver form. Hot laps are scheduled for 6 p.m. for the Late Model-only event. Find more race details and forms required at atomicspeedway.net/invitational.
Editor's note: Updates with new race name.
