Former WoO regular Mitchell dies at 52
Former World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series competitor Roy Mitchell of Hobart, Ind., died June 11 after suffering a massive heart attack at a truck stop near Lake Havasu, Ariz. The long-haul trucker was 52.
The longtime dirt racer competed most often at Daugherty Speedway in Boswell, Ind., but hit the road in 2007 to enter 27 of the 45 WoO events. He took provisionals for all 16 of his feature starts and earned $13,290 while finishing 13th in points.
A memorial service for Mitchell, whose body was cremated and brought back to his family by the Truckers’ Finale Mile charity, will be held June 28 at the Rensselaer (Ind.) Moose Lodge.
