Georgia Hall of Famer Richey dies at 85
Joe Richey, who operated Richey Racing and was a member of the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, died Saturday. He was 85.
Richey was a familiar face at racetracks in the Chattanooga, Tenn., area and beyond fielding cars for many years, including those of the No. 87 driven by his son Rex Richey. The U.S. Army veteran was also a dairy farmer.
Besides his son Rex, Joseph “Joe” W. Richey is survived by his wife of 59 years, Austina Richey, a daughter, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Heritage Funeral Home in Fort Oglethorpe, Ga. The funeral is 12:30 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at the funeral home with interment in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Among pallbearers are former Late Model racers Dewayne Aldridge and Kent Hicks.
