Mitchell, others join Intercontinental field
Zack Mitchell of Enoree, S.C., topped online voting for Eldora Speedway’s Intercontinental Classic and will join the 48-car field for Sept. 10-12’s invitation-only event along with three other drivers selected by fans.
Mitchell (pictured), the Ultimate Southeast Series points leader, earned the most votes followed by Comp Cams Super Dirt Series regular Spencer Hughes of Meridian, Miss., former Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Rookie of the Year Hudson O’Neal of Martinsville, Ind., and Warrior Race Cars house car driver Ryan King of Seymour, Tenn., the Schaeffer's Iron-Man Late Model Series points leader. The competition among more than 40 drivers drew more than 60,000 audited votes.
The four will join 44 previously invited drivers to compete at the Rossburg, Ohio, oval in the non-spectator event replacing the postponed 50th annual World 100. The Intercontinental Classic includes a pair of 25-lap prelims ($10,000-to-win apiece) and a 67-lap finale ($50,000-to-win) at the Tony Stewart-owned racetrack.
