Tennessean faces eye issues after wreck
Racer Brad Skinner is recovering at his Spring Hill, Tenn., home following a nasty flipping wreck during on Oct. 27 practice session at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Ga.
According to Skinner’s joint Facebook page shared by his wife Ashley, Skinner suffered a severe concussion coupled with “blurry vision, hemorrhaging and swelling in both eyes.” He also suffered partial loss of vision in his left eye due to a detached retina, “swelling of the macular and permanent damage to optical nerves.”
In a Tuesday update, Ashley Skinner said: “Brad is doing a lot better. Still has a lot of soreness in his left side. Unfortunately his eyesight in his left eye is not any better.” Skinner had another MRI on Tuesday and is expected to see an eye specialist Nov. 12.
• Josh Rice of Verona, Ky., was taken to the hospital for observation after hitting a rut during an Oct. 24 heat race at Florence (Ky.) Speedway. Rice, who scratched from the main event, was diagnosed with a mild concussion and released.
