Mountain View honoring late Williams
Mountain View Raceway's Fourth of July weekend special for the sportsman division will honor late Tennessee dirt racer Sam Williams of Crossville, Tenn., on Saturday with a $3,096-to-win event for the driver of the No. 96.
Williams, winner of more than 300 races over a 30-year career, died June 10 at the age of 68. His brother Rick will pilot one of Sam's cars during opening ceremonies for the event.
July 3's Sam Williams Memorial 40 at the Spring City, Tenn., oval, will include time trials, consolation races, a non-qualifiers' race and $50 long-tow award. Visiting drivers must meet sportsman division rules posted at mountainviewraceway.com.
