Atwood, Carrier among LCS inductees
Lake Cumberland Speedway will induct Late Model standouts Dale Atwood, Bobby Carrier Jr. (pictured), Tom Curtsinger and six others into the track's Hall of Fame during July 4's Valvoline Iron-Man Racing Series event, the Burnside, Ky., track announced. The five driver inductees:
Dale Atwood: A standout in the Late Model and sportsman divisions, the Liberty, Ky., driver terrorized central Kentucky tracks in his Jimmy Cundiff-built car with scores of victories.
Bobby Carrier Jr.: The second-generation driver from Harrodsburg, Ky., won frequently in street stocks, modifieds and Late Models, most famously driving a Bob Miller-fielded modified the the Kenneth Harlow-fielded No. 16 Late Model. He also piloted Danny Ray Preston's R&P Industrial Chimney Late Model.
Tom Curtsinger: The multidivision racer from Harrodsburg, Ky., had a career season of nearly 30 Late Model total victories and a Lake Cumberland track title in 2000. He piloted a Jimmy Cundiff-owned modified in the early 2000s.
Keith Decker: The Science Hill, Ky., driver captured the first victory at Lake Cumberland in the 1980s when it was built built as a dune buggy track. He went on to win Lake Cumberland features in multiple divisions over five decades.
Danny McGlothlin: A longtime racer and supporter of the track through his Mac Metal Sales of Somerset, Ky., he won more than 30 Late Models features, including a stretch of 11 over 13 starts at Lake Cumberland. His first victory came in the 1993 Firecracker 50.
Inducted along with the drivers will be four contributors, including longtime flagger Noel Hargis who flagged part of his 40-year career at Lake Cumberland and was chief starter of the Battle of the Bluegrass DirtCar Series and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Marshall Delaney (one of the track's builders, a track official and former car owner) will also be inducted along with Steve Flynn (original owner and builder of the track with Steve Hogue) and Billy Todd (car owner for drivers Mike Marlar, Timmy Yeager and his son, Tyrel Todd).
The track is also awarding Lifetime Achievement honors to longtime driver David Marlar of Winfield, Tenn., and former driver and track volunteer Danny Yanders. — Michael Despain, Chris Tilley and Brian Abner
