Volunteer Southern Nat'ls reset for Aug. 1
Persistent rain showers Monday evening forced the postponement of the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals program at Volunteer Speedway to Aug. 1 as a non-points event. It’s the second straight event to be rained out on the Ray Cook-promoted tour.
After a delay of more than an hour following a steady rain that began just before the scheduled drivers’ meeting, cars were on the track preparing for hot laps when rain returned. Officials waited until 9:30 p.m., but when conditions didn't improve, the 40-lap, $4,053-to-win event was postponed and rescheduled as a non-points event.
Volunteer's Sunday, Aug. 1 event will follow the tour's July 31 points finale at Tazewell Speedway, setting up four straight events on the minitour.
The series heads 100 miles south Tuesday to I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn., for a $4,053-to-win event.
Correction: Updates Volunteer's makeup race as a non-points event.
