Richey, Weaver among SAS inductees

The Southern All Star Racing Series today announced that Saturday's tour Hall of Fame induction ceremonies will include 12 new members, including multitime series champions Rex Richey (pictured) and Randy Weaver.

Induction ceremonies will be part of Saturday's B.J. Parker Memorial Governor's Cup at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., a $10,000-to-win event on the Parker-founded series. The inductees in alphabetical order:

Shorty Bearden: The longtimer support of the SAS dirt and asphalt tours is a Sunoco Racing Fuels representative.

Dan Beddingfield: The Huntsville, Ala., driver of the No. 44 was the 1994 SAS asphalt champion and Rookie of the Year.

Charlie Edwards: The Georgian holds the honor of being the lone promoter to host dirt and asphalt series events as promoter of Senoia (Ga.) Raceway and Seven Flags Speedway in Douglasville, Ga.

Stan Massey: The late Mableton, Ga., was a three-time SAS winner in 1995 among his nearly 400 career victories. He's also a member of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame.

Monty Morrow: The former promoter of Cleveland (Tenn.) Speedway and North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth hosted 101 series races during his tenure in the 1990s-00s.

Mike Oliver: The Guntersville, Ala., driver was the 1992-93 SAS asphalt champion in the No. 41 car and winner of many series races.

Rex Richey: The Ringgold, Ga., driver is a 15-time series winner and captured championships in 1989 and '01. He was the 1988 tour Rookie of the Year.

Doug Sopha: The Hoosier Tire South distributor for many years was longtime series supporter.

Jimmy "Pup" Thomas: The Hoosier Tire South representative for more than 30 years has been a longtime series supporter.

James "Cotton" Varner: The late Bayview, Ala., resident was the head SAS asphalt official from 1991-96, when he retired.

Tony Walls: The Albertville, Ala., driver was the 1998 asphalt series champion and winner of more than 40 series features.

Randy Weaver: The still-active Crossville, Tenn., driver was champion in 2008-09 and '12 and his 21 career victories include a streak of five in a row in 2015.
