Ohio’s Jackson County oval for sale
With promoters unable to create a "better level of racing" and draw large enough crowds for financial stability, Jackson County Speedway in Jackson, Ohio, is for sale, co-owner Mark Andrus announced today on the 3/10-mile oval's Facebook page.
Andrus and fellow New York native Ethan Button purchased the track in 2019 and reopened it, operating it for two seasons while running frequent Limited Late Model and occasional Super Late Model events among programs. Promoters plan to run two or three more events in October to complete the points season.
"We have put in a lot of work and time unfortunately funding is not available to do what’s needed to be done the way I would like," said Andrus, citing recent cancellations connected to Covid-19, faulty track equipment and lack of reliable staff. Attempts to improving racing and attendance through giveaways, free pit admission and extra purse money have fallen short, he added
"The decision doesn’t come lightly," Andrus wrote. "We have made huge improvements to the safety for the drivers redoing the walls and adding lighting but just unable to finish that project with much needed LED lighting. We have replaced and reworked the bleachers to accommodate the fans. We have more equipment but just like everything with age has its limitations. Unfortunately we were unable to secure an investor and hope that someone can take over where we have gotten to this point."
