May's Illinois Speedweek breaks bank
More than $89,000 in first-place money and a points fund worth $22,500 has been posted for the inaugural FloRacing Illinois Speedweek, a four-race stretch of spring action in the Land of Lincoln set for May 11-14.
The swing begins with Castrol FloRacing Night in America events on Wednesday and Thursday, May 11-12, at Banner’s Spoon River Speedway and Lincoln Speedway. Each event pays $22,022-to-win and $1,000-to-start.
Farmer City Raceway hosts a $15,000-to-win show May 13, and the miniseries concludes May 14, with Fairbury’s inaugural Spring Shootout boasting a $30,000 winner’s check. The Farmer City and Fairbury dates will be sanctioned by the MARS Racing Series.
In addition to the lucrative purses, the FloRacing Illinois Speedweek champion will receive $10,000 from a miniseries points fund that also offers $5,000 for second, $3,000 for third, $2,500 for fourth and $2,000 for fifth.
“To say I’m excited is a giant understatement,” FloRacing’s Michael Rigsby said. “I’ve lived and breathed Super Late Model racing in Illinois my entire life, and to have this FloRacing Illinois Speedweek become a reality is a dream come true. There’s some great money on the line, and between winner’s checks and the points money one driver could win right at $100,000 that week. It gets me fired up just thinking about it.”
All four events will stream live on FloRacing.
