Overnight storms batter Huset's oval
The second half of Huset’s Speedway Memorial Day weekend doubleheader was cancelled after a line of severe storms early Monday damaged the Brandon, S.D., facility, ripping apart the scoring tower and suites at the 3/8-mile oval.
No one was injured during storms that came hours after Sunday’s Repairable Vehicles.com Tri-State Series-sanctioned Ben Nothdurft Memorial for Late Models won by Justin Zeitner of Malvern, Iowa.
Monday’s program, scheduled to include the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association and three other divisions, was cancelled. The track is scheduled to host the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series on June 5, the first of four scheduled nights of WoO sprint competition at the track.
The storms across South Dakota produced strong winds, heavy rain, hail and multiple tornado watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service, according to the Argus Leader of nearby Sioux Falls, S.D. Nearly 10,000 homes were without power overnight along with downed power lines and trees, but no injuries had been reported, according to the report.
