Summer Nationals lose I-96 event

July 15's DIRTcar Summer Nationals event at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich., has been removed from the tour's schedule, the series announced. Track promoters, operating on what they described a "week-to-week basis," were concerned about being able to to cover the $10,000-to-win Summer Nationals purse in light of a nearby conflicting motorsports event, according to a post this morning on the track's Facebook page.

Series officials are seeking a replacement track for the series which has seen six scheduled races cancelled, including two in Michigan. The loss of the I-96 date leaves four Michigan tracks on the schedule for July 20-23 events that wrap up the six-week series.

Among other recent Dirt Late Model schedule changes:

• Cherokee Speedway has added a $10,000-to-win Ultimate Super Late Model Series event for Oct. 22. The Fall Brawl will include three undercard divisions and serve as the season finale for the Ultimate tour, which ran May 29 at Cherokee with Ross Bailes of Clover, S.C., scoring a $7,500 payday.

• The Zimmer's United Late Model Series annnounced it will make up Friday's rainout at Dog Hollow Speedway in Strongstown, Pa., on July 22. ULMS also added a July 23 date at Marion Center (Pa.) Raceway for a two-race weekend of $3,500-to-win events.

• The XR Southern All Stars have removed the Aug. 19 event at Boyd's Speedway in Ringgold, Ga., from the series schedule. Additionally Sept. 10's event at Super Bee Speedway in Chatham, La., will pay $7,000-to-win, down from the upgraded $10,000-to-win that was announced in early April.

• July 22's I-95 Late Model Challenge Series race at Fayetteville (N.C.) Motor Speedway has been cancelled, the track announced this evening.
