North-South's opening night rained out
UNION, Ky. — Thursday’s opening night preliminary program for the Sunoco North-South 100 weekend at Florence Speedway was rained out. Ticket refund details will be announced Friday.
Thursday’s action, halted following the conclusion of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series time trials, won’t be rescheduled and Friday’s originally scheduled program of split-field, $5,000-to-win preliminary features begins with 6:30 pm. hot laps.
Chris Ferguson of Mount Holly, N.C., was the fastest of 55 Lucas Oil Series qualifiers with a 15.483-second lap, giving him a $2,034 bonus in memory of Doug Lee. Three modified heats were completed but rain hit about 8:30 p.m. before the fourth of six heats. Track workers spent about 90 minutes working the racetrack before the event was cancelled about 10:20.
With the cancellation of Thursday’s program, Friday’s preliminaries will set the heat race lineups for Saturday’s program, which is capped by an event-record $75,000-to-win main event.
