Wreck-caused concussion sidelines Thirlby
Brandon Thirlby of Traverse City, Mich., has been diagnosed with a severe concussion following a hard crash over the weekend at home-state track Winston Speedway, Thirlby’s girlfriend Leah Salay wrote to Facebook on Thursday night.
“I hate to be the bearer of bad news but Brandon will not be racing this weekend,” Salay posted. “We have been in the ER all day/night because of symptoms from his hard hit to the wall Friday at Winston. He does have a severe concussion from the crash.”
Salay added that 34-year-old Thirlby’s computed tomography scan came back normal and that the Michigander is awaiting MRI results. The DIRTcar Summer Nationals winner on July 23 at Merritt Speedway in Lake City, Mich., has no timetable for a return to racing.
“We’re not sure what the rest of the racing season looks like as of now but keep him in your prayers this is nothing serious,” Salay concluded.
