Madden rejoining WoO circuit

Two-time series runner-up Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., will return to the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series to chase a $175,000 championship, the national tour announced today.

The 47-year-old Madden, second in WoO points in 2017 and ’21, returns to the series after an independent season that saw him collect 15 victories, four paying at least $50,000 and the Georgia-Florida Speedweeks finale with WoO at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla.

“They’ve worked on the schedule and got the number of races down and got it to where it interests me to come back on board,” Madden said. “We can hit up multiple money races, and it doesn’t interfere with each other.”

Madden, who owns 33 WoO victories and finished finished third in series points in 2018, believes 2023 is his best chance for his first World of Outlaws title.

“I’ve always been a fan of the Outlaw racing, and I want to get a championship before I decide to hang it up, so we’re going to try to make it happen this year,” Madden said. “I feel like we’ve been on top of our game for the past few years, so hopefully, we can just be consistent and get wins and get us a points championship.”

WoO’s season opens Jan. 19-21 at Volusia for the Sunshine Nationals with a pair of $8,000-to-win events capped by a $20,000-to-win weekend finale. — Mike Warren
