Stateline wreck injures Crate racer
Crate Late Model racer Draven Kuzminski of Sugar Grove, Pa., was taken to an Erie, Pa., hospital Saturday night after being involved in a wreck at Stateline Speedway in Busti, N.Y., that left him with back pain and the temporary loss of movement in his left leg, according to team and track reports.
Kuzminski, the 26-year-old driver of the No. 22D and teammate to fellow Crate racer Ward Schell, was treated at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Hamot and returned home early Sunday evening. The wreck occurred in turns three and four after Kuzminski spun and an oncoming car made hard contact with the right side of his machine in the feature race. He was pulled from the car, put on a stretcher and taken to the hospital.
According to a team report, hard contact in the wreck caused spinal cord shock, but overnight Kuzminski "slowly regained feeling and movement on his left side." Kuzminski and the team thanked medical professionals, track EMTs and the racing community for care and concern during the episode.
Kuzminski, a third-year Crate Late Model racer, is 24th in Stateline's Crate Late Model points after three events. He competed in 11 RUSH-sanctioned Crate Late Model events last season.
