With Brad Denney officially stepping down as promoter at Spoon River Speedway in Banner, Ill., Brad’s father and track owner Morey Denney will return as co-promoter with his youngest son and Brad’s brother Jacob Denney sharing the role, the track announced this evening.

Brad Denney, 2022’s DIRTcar Promoter of the Year and January’s recipient of DIRTcar’s Bob Memmer Award, cited personal reasons in stepping down after 14 years promoting the 3/8-mile oval. At DIRTcar’s January banquet, Denney had said he expected 2023 to be his last season as promoter.

In a track release, the outgoing promoter thanked fans, drivers, teams and organizations and “most importantly, I owe a thank you to my father for believing in me and allowing me to oversee the operations of our great facility.”

Along with his promotional career, the 63-year-old Denney has competed at the track most of its 41 years of existence, winning 14 track championships in Limited and Crate Late Model divisions. His June 10 Crate victory marked the 300th of his career in combined feature victories in street stock, modified and Late Model divisions.

Morey Denney, who promoted the family-owned track from 1984-2009, and Jacob Denney will take over beginning with July 15 promotions. Brad Denney will return to his promotional role for two more events, Sept. 8-9’s Heartland Auto Racing Tour E-mod and Hornet Nationals and 2024’s Castrol FloRacing Night in America event.
