MLRA pivots after rainout, adds finale
With its original season-ending weekend rained out, the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association today announced the addition of a $10,000-to-win MLRA event Oct. 28 at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo.
Oct. 13-14’s doubleheader at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., was doomed by weather, so the tour quickly huddled with Lucas Oil Speedway officials to add a ninth series race of the season at the 3/8-mile oval.
"We really appreciate Danny Lorton and his staff at Lucas Oil Speedway for giving us an opportunity to finish out the season on track," MLRA series director Ernie Leftwich said. "Winning a championship is a big deal for anybody and our series takes great pride in making the final night memorable for not only the winner, but also our series champion and rookie of the year.”
Chad Simpson leads brother Chris Simpson by 270 points in the title chase while Dillon McCowan leads the Sunoco Rookie of the Year chase.
MLRA is making plans for Tri-City to host the championship weekend again in 2024.
