DTWC condensed to Saturday twinbill
ROSSBURG, Ohio — Continued late-week rain at Eldora Speedway rained out Friday’s action at Carl Short’s 43rd annual General Tire Dirt Track World Championship presented by ARP, condensing the $100,000-to-win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finale to Saturday with split afternoon and evening programs. | RaceWire
“The track was very soft and there was no way we were going to be able to (race) today,” series director Rick Schwallie told DirtonDirt.com at Friday’s press conference regarding the Big River Steel Chase for the Championship with title contenders Ricky Thornton Jr., Hudson O’Neal, Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran.
Hot laps are scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday for the afternoon preliminary program with time trials for the Lucas Oil Series along with the undercard Steel Block Late Model Series. The afternoon program includes Lucas Oil heat races as well as heat races and consolation races for the SBLMS.
Immediately following the afternoon program, the grandstands will be cleared and track surface will be prepared with the series planning to go into Saturday’s evening program within an hour. Schwallie emphasized that Saturday’s scheduled program won’t necessariliy be based on the original scheduled start time of 6 p.m.
The Lucas Oil portion of the event has unofficially drawn 60 race cars to the first-ever DTWC at Eldora Speedway. Along with the $100,000 winner’s purse, the Big River Steel Big Four will be battling for the series title with $200,000 going to the title, $150,000 for second, $125,000 for third and $100,000 for fourth.
The pits open at 9 p.m. Saturday with grandstands opening at 11 a.m. Three-day, two-day and Friday-only tickets and pit passes are valid for the afternoon program. When the grandstands reopen, three-day, two-day and Saturday-only tickets are valid for entry.
