Wheatland's MLRA season finale cancelled
With an unwavering forecast of persistent rain and cool temperatures Saturday, the Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association season finale at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Mo., has been cancelled.
MLRA officials had hoped to conclude the season on the track after the originally scheduled MLRA Championship Weekend at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Ill., set for earlier this month was rained out. With the cancellation, Chad Simpson of Mount Vernon, Iowa, claims his second consecutive series championship and fourth overall to go with previous titles in 2014, ’18 and ’22.
MLRA director Ernie Leftwich said the tour’s 2024 schedule is set to open with the MLRA Spring Nationals March 22-23 at Lucas Oil Speedway.
Other weekend weather-related postponements or cancellations:
Springfield: Saturday's Dirt Track Bank Cash Money Super Dirt Series event at Springfield (Mo.) Raceway was rained out and won't be rescheduled.
Atomic: Saturday's Valvoline Iron-Man Northern Series season finale at Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio, was cancelled because of a dreary forecast; the event won't be rescheduled.
Centerville: Titan Legends Series officials cancelled Friday’s stop because of rain and an unfavorable forecast for the remainder of the weekend; the Southern touring series is set to conclude its 2023 season with Nov. 26’s $1,000-to-win finale at Diamond Park Speedway in Nashville, Ark.
