Standout Maryland racer dies at 81
Larry Gorman, the winner of more than 50 Late Model features in a career stretching from the 1960s to early 1980s, died May 15 at his Boonsboro, Md., home. He was 81.
The Hagerstown (Md.) Speedway Hall of Famer captured 17 victories at the half-mile oval and was a 15-race winner at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., among other Mid-Atlantic tracks including Bedford (Pa.) Speedway, Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway and Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa.
The Hagerstown native was a longtime high school teacher and basketball coach and also owned several convenience stores.
Survivors included his wife Lorraine Gorman, children Shane and Lindsay and five grandchildren. A celebration of life is 4-8 p.m. May 31 at the Historic Springfield Barn in Williamsport, Md. Find a complete obituary at staufferfuneralhome.com.
