'Health issues' halt Madden's WoO run
Two weeks after announcing plans to step from full-time Dirt Late Model competition at the conclusion of the season, Chris Madden of Gray Court, S.C., revealed Thursday evening that “unforeseen health issues” have forced him to abandon his chase of the 2024 World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series championship. | RaceWire
The revelation came just before Thursday’s WoO event at Thunderhill Raceway Park in Summertown, Tenn., that kicks off a critical stretch of eight races in seven states over a 10-day span.
In a brief statement posted to the 49-year-old standout’s social media accounts, Chris Madden Racing “regretfully” announced the “suspension” of his WoO campaign. No other details of Madden’s health status were released.
“Chris would like to apologize to all of his fan and eagerly hopes for a swift recovery and return to the racetrack,” the statement read.
Madden currently sits fourth in the WoO standings, 60 points out of the lead with two feature wins to his credit. In announcing his decision to become a part-time racer next year, he said winning the WoO title was one of his main remaining goals following three runner-up and one third-place finish in his four career attempts at running the series full-time.
