Minnesota racer dies after motorcycle wreck
Nick Minske of East Grand Forks, Minn., a part-time racer with the Northern LateModel Racing Association and River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., died Friday from critical injuries sustained in a June 15 automobile-motorcycle accident near Grand Forks. He was 35.
Minske, the 10th-place finisher in NLRA's June 7 event at River Cities in his No. 1M Late Model, was honored during NLRA's pre-race ceremonies at I-94 EMR Speedway with missing-man formation parade laps. An estimated 300 people turned out that morning at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks for an honor walk paying tribute to Minske and organ donations.
"May the River Cities Speedway echo with the roar of engines in honor of Nick Minske" was among the lines of his obituary.
According to police reports, Minske was driving a motorcyle that struck the side of a car that rolled through a stop sign, resulting in critical injuries for the motorcylist. Three passengers in the car suffered minor injuries.
Survivors include his wife Rachel and five children: Ella, Claira, Harley, Jolene and Ruthie. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in East Grand Forks followed by a prayer service; a memorial service is 11:30 a.m. at the church preceded by another hour of visitation.
