Miniseries set for Red Clay 602s
The Red Clay Series for 602 Crate Late Models has added five events that will run on the undercard to five upcoming Schaeffer's Southern Nationals events over 11 days in the second half of July.
The abbreviated Red Clay programs will have hot laps, time trials and 20-lap, 20-car features with a non-qualifier race, if necessary. The recently announced events won't be full points races but Red Clay regulars can count their best finish toward tour points. The five races will carry a $1,053-to-win miniseries points fund for drivers with perfect attendance.
The races are July 16 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, Tenn.; July 18 at Senoia (Ga.) Raceway; July 23 at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.; July 15 at Toccoa (Ga.) Raceway; and July 26 at North Georgia Speedway in Chatsworth, Ga. All races pay $1,053-to-win except Cherokee's $1,553-to-win win that will be co-sanctioned by the GM Performance 602 Series.
Ray Cook, in his 20th year promoting the Southern Nationals, became co-director of the Red Clay circuit in the spring and has long-term plans to potentially bring a second Late Model-style car to join the programs for many of his Super Late Model events.
