Leading WISSOTA Late Model rookie Shane Sabraski of Rice, Minn., the winner of 11 feature races and points leader on the KME miniseries at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wis., has been sidelined after suffering a mild heart attack over a weekend when he won seven multidivision features, his wife announced this evening.

The 45-year-old Sabraski, an 11-time WISSOTA champion among three divisions with more than 900 career feature victories, was admitted into CentraCare - St. Cloud (Minn.) Hospitial on Sunday night and underwent a procedure to place a heart stent, Katie Sabraski posted on the team's Facebook page. The blockage was 100 percent in a small branch off the right coronary artery but didn't do any long-term damage, she told DirtonDirt.com.

"On Saturday morning, we woke up in the hauler at Superior and he felt chest pain and back pain which we assumed was acid reflux and standard back pain. He hunched over the bed for a bit and took some meds and questioned if he was able to drive the hauler so we waited a bit for the pain to subside before hitting the road to Ogilvie" Raceway in Minnesota, where Sabraski captured Saturday's Late Model feature over a 15-car field, Katie wrote. "Fast forward to late Sunday night, he woke up with terrible pain again and noticed his heartbeat sounding and feeling abnormal."

Arriving at the ER, he was diagnosed with a mild heart attack. The doctor "says he should sit out this weekand and then just listen to his body going forward," Katie Sabraski said Wednesday. "We are home and he's resting up."

Sabraski, in his 25th season, owns 33 multidivision victories in 2024 including Late Model victories at  Gondik Law, Ogilvie, I-94 EMR Speedway in Fergus Falls, Minn., Granite City Motor Park in Sauk Rapids, Minn., Proctor (Minn.) Speedway and Hibbing (Minn.) Raceway. He earned $11,111 in winning July 12's Tom Waseleski Memorial at Hibbing and captured July races on the Structural Buildings WISSOTA Challenge Series at Gondik Law and Granite City.

He opened the weekend Thursday at Grand Rapids winning the $2,500 Late Model feature as well as the modified and super stock features. He finished seventh in Friday's Gondik Law Late Model feature while winning the super stock and modified features. Along with Saturday's Late Model victory at Ogilvie, he won the super stock feature.

Last year, the owner-operator of JTC Transport became the first driver in WISSOTA history to win two division championships in the same year, winning titles in the modified and super stock division. Through July 29, he's second in overall WISSOTA Late Model points to reigning champ Tyler Peterson of Hickson, N.D.
