East Tennessee racer dies at 58

Longtime Dirt Late Model racer Jeff Wolfenbarger of Clinton, Tenn., a regular at Tazewell (Tenn.) Speedway among other tracks for more than 30 seasons alongside his brother Terry, died Wednesday morning after a battle with cancer. He was 58.
Wolfenbarger’s death was first reported by the Facebook page of Tazewell Speedway, the high-banked track where he was a winner and longtime regular. Wolfenbarger, among the first Bloomquist Race Car customers, was also noted for his Davey Allison throwback No. 28 graphics scheme. Among his best special-event finishes was a third-place finish in a 2015 Carolina Clash event at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn., a sixth-place run in 2016’s Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tenn., and a fourth-place finish at 2001’s Traci Posey Memorial at Tazewell.
Besides his brother Terry, the owner of Kool Kolors Rod and Customs is survived by his wife Pat Wolfenbarger, his mother and another brother and sister.
