Rick Eckert celebrates his Ultimate Northeast victory at Selinsgrove Speedway.
What won the race: Sliding ahead of race-long leader Gregg Satterlee on lap 13, sixth-starting Rick Eckert of York, Pa., ran away with the 30-lap Fairfield Chevrolet Show Down On Sand Hill on Saturday night at Selinsgrove Speedway to capture a $3,000 victory. He took the checkers 1.421 seconds ahead of Satterlee for his second win in as many nights with the Ultimate Northeast Series.
Quotable: “I knew Gregg would be tough," Eckert said. "When I got to second I had the fortune to kind of search around a little bit to see if I could find speed somewhere else on the racetrack. When you’re leading you run whatever line you think’s the fastest. I got to rolling that top in one and two and I could really make some time."
Key notes: Eckert earned the fifth Ultimate Northeast victory of his career in completing a sweep of the tour's doubleheader weekend. He also earned $3,000 for his victory Friday night at Path Valley Speedway in Spring Run, Pa. ... Eckert turned back Satterlee's last-ditch challenges in a green-white-checkered finish after Andy Haus slowed and brought out a caution on the final lap. ... Eckert's ninth career win at Selinsgrove was his second this season; he earned $4,000 for an unsanctioned triumph on May 30, the first of his four overall victories in 2020. ... Satterlee settled for second after leading laps 1-13; he also finished second to Eckert on Friday. ... Polesitter Hayes Mattern faded back to fourth on the opening lap and ended up 14th. … Haus was challenging Satterlee for second on the final lap when he got over the turn-one cushion and slammed the outside wall. ... Caution flags also slowed the race on laps 10, 13, 16 and 21.
On the move: Jeff Rine of Danville, Pa., started ninth and finished third.
Winner's sponsors: Eckert’s Rocket Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens Racing Engine and sponsored by Drydene Performance Products, P.P.C. Lubricants, S.L. Shenberger Dump Truck Service, Firehouse Subs, Allstar Performance, Suburban Bowlerama, M&M Painting & Construction, Eckert Trucking and All About Wraps.
Points chase: Jared Miley led Dan Angelicchio and Ryan Montgomery entering the weekend doubleheader, but none of the three drivers attended Friday’s race at Path Valley.
