Neil Baggett steers toward his first Comp Cams win of the season.
What won the race: Surviving potential disaster in a spin amid lapped cars with six laps remaining, Neil Baggett of Columbus, Miss., was restored to the lead and captured his first Comp Cams Super Dirt Series victory of the season Friday at Greenville Speedway. Baggetted held off a hard-charging Brian Rickman to earn $4,000 in the Gumbo Nationals weekend opener.
Key notes: Baggett grabbed the lead early which lead to a hard battle between Baggett and Josh Putnam for the top spot. ... Putnam then ran into trouble and retired from the event on lap 19. ... Baggett then set sail after a restart and was slightly pulling away from Brian Rickman with six laps remaining. ... Baggett and Rickman avoided disaster after two lapped cars spun in turn two right in front of the leaders causing them to loop their cars to avoid contact. ... Both Baggett and Rickman regained their positions setting up a shootout for the win. ... Rickman cut into Baggett's lead late when the leader clipped the wall exiting turn two.
Winner's sponsors: Baggett’s Prate Montgomery-owned Rocket Chassis is powered by a Jay Dickens engine and sponsored by Montgomery Farms, Jamie’s Body Shop, Flora Logging, RTC Recovery, Bo’s Satellite Service and Advanced Logistics.
