What won the race: Overtaking polesitter Zach Sise on lap 13, outside front-row starter Ricky Weiss of Headingley, Manitoba, dominated the remaining distance of Friday night’s Crate Late Model National Championship opener at Volunteer Speedway. Finishing with a lead of 3.087 seconds, Weiss pocketed $5,000 in the non-points event for the American Crate All-Star Series.
Key notes: Weiss wrestled away the lead on lap 13 after Zach Sise led the first 12 circuits. … Sise was credited with 18th-place finish after pulling off on lap 31. … Josh Henry of Newport, Tenn., drew the first caution of the race on lap four. … Jensen Ford of Piney Flats, Tenn., was forced pitside for the evening in his heat with fuel issues after leading the first five laps. … Friday’s 50-lap American Crate All-Star Series feature served as a tune-up for Saturday’s 100-lap event that pays $15,000 the winner. … The two events are non-points races for the Tennessee-based Crate series which crowned Trevor Sise of Knoxville, Tenn., as champion following the final points race on Oct. 17. … This was the fourth series visit of the season to the 4/10-mile Tennessee oval.
