What won the race: Surviving a rough and tumble Bama Brawl, Rod Carroll of Anniston, Ala., won the third annual event Sunday at Fort Payne Motor Speedway. Carroll took the lead from teammate D.J. Hayes with just a handful of laps remaining and went on to finish 1.527 seconds ahead of Hayes. Carroll earned $4,500 for winning the unsanctioned 50-lapper. Three drivers were running at the finish.
Key notes: Seventh-starting David Mielke of Gladwin, Mich., finished third, four laps down. … Polesitter Sam Seawright of Rainsville, Ala., and fourth-starting Todd Morrow of Penton, Ala., were sent to the tail before the race began when they each showed up to the starting grid with a 70 compound tire on the right rear. Morrow made six laps and decided to park, while Seawright soldiered on. … Seawright later pitted to change a right rear tire and lost a lap while in the pits. After discussion with race officials during the next caution, Seawright parked. … Contact between then-leader John Ownbey of Cleveland, Tenn., and second-running Dillon Tidmore of Gadsden, Ala., eliminated the two on lap 16. … Dalton Polston of Douglasville, Ga., was black-flagged on lap 16 for almost hitting a race officials under the lap-16 caution. … Last year’s winner Josh Putnam of Florence, Ala., also retired on lap 16. … The third annual Eddie Davis Memorial Bama Brawl honored the late marketing director of the United Championship Racing Alliance. … Seawright won the 40-lap Red Line Synthetic Oil UCRA main event. ...
