Chris Simpson notched his 15th career MLRA victory.
What won the race: Second-starting Chris Simpson of Oxford, Iowa, led all 40 laps Saturday at Deer Creek Speedway to earn his 15th career Lucas Oil Midwest LateModel Racing Association victory. He earned $5,000 in snapping Tony Jackson Jr.’s two-race win streak.
Quotable: Following the victory Simpson said of the win, "I know the track rubbered up a little, but I felt like we really had a good car all night. We could move around and we did what we had to do in the heat to win," Simpson said. "I knew the top was crumby and I knew if I could get the lead and get down, and them my crew guy was telling me to go to the top, so I knew it must have rubbered.”
Key notes: Simpson drove a new MB Customs car the team just completed. ... Simpson's win, his first of the season in MLRA competition, moves him into sole possession of 14th on the series' all-time win list. ... Jordan Yaggy of Rochester, Minn., claimed the runner-up position, 0.580 seconds behind Simpson. ... Garrett Alberson of Las Cruces, N.M., traded the second position with Yaggy for several laps, before fading to finish fourth. ... After winning at Maquoketa Speedway (Iowa) on Thursday and Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Wis.) on Friday, Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., advanced seven positions and finished 10th. … Jackson remains the tour’s only repeat winner through 11 events. ... Saturday's feature was slowed by three incidents and lasted 21 minutes with 15 competitors completing all 40 laps.
On the move: Chad Mahder of Bloomer, Wis., started 12th and finished fifth.
Winner's sponsors: Simpson’s MB Customs Race Car is powered by an Andy Durham Racing Engine and sponsored by Cheap Cars, Five Star Shop Service, Randy Davidson Trucking, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Hoker Trucking, Superior Cleaning, Allgaier Performance, Chase Decals, Simpson Farms, IITI and Lucas Oil.
