Horton sweeps $4,000 SAS stop at Sugar Creek
What won the race: Polesitter Austin Horton of Whitesburg, Ga., swept the evening by winning the Firecracker 40 at Sugar Creek Raceway on Sunday, earning his second career Southern All Star Dirt Series feature victory and collecting $4,000.
Quotable: “We made the kinda last-minute decision to go to Sugar Creek Raceway on Sunday, and it paid off. We felt like we made some mistakes on Saturday night at Senoia Raceway, and we were looking for redemption, and I guess you could say we found it,” Horton said. “That was my first time to Sugar Creek, and it’s a fun place. I’m glad we made the trip.”
Key notes: The event was the tour’s first at Sugar Creek since 1994. … The tour is scheduled to return Oct. 16. … Among other Late Model specials this season, the Seth Wimpey-promoted track plans to host the unsanctioned Sugar Creek Cranberry Clash Nov. 27-28. The Thanksgiving weekend event will include a $1,500-to-win Super Late Model feature on opening night and $5,000-to-win finale for Supers on the second night. Crate Late Models will chase a $3,000 winner's purse on the same weekend.
