What won the race: Mark Whitener of Middleburg, Fla., led all 49 laps Sunday at East Alabama Motor Speedway for a $9,000 payday in the Super Late Model portion of the Alabama State Championships. Whitener took the checkers ahead of fellow Floridian Jeff Mathews.
Quotable: “Man it feels good to get back to victory lane. The past month has been challenging for everyone on our team both on and off the track, but everybody has been busting their tails, and it all paid off at East Alabama,” Whitener said. “This Rocket Chassis is rolling right now, and we’re looking forward to going after the $10,000 check with the Outlaws at Senoia (Raceway) this Saturday.”
Key notes: East Alabama Motor Speedway hosted five Late Model-style divisions as part of an 11-division slate during the 49th annual Alabama State Championships. … Joseph Brown won the Limited Late Model feature while Jimmy Thomas (604) and Steven Bryant (602) won Crate Late Model features. ...
